marquis hawkes returns with a new ep for houndstooth, sweet. pairing up a sugary r&b sample with his signature swinging but slamming beats, opening cut when i get home is a return to the flavour of last year s summer smash cant find a reason, although this time around, it s more tracky and introspective. next up, a different facet of hawkes production talents is reprised with at the witness stand, a trippy take on classic ny freestyle. opening the b-side, title track sweet furthers hawkes trademark rough and ready house sound with distinctive vocal hooks and a hip-twitching rhythm, whilst bringing up the rear, what a relief is a raw but inescapably funky drum workout that would make the likes of traxmen & eric martin proud.

food music welcomes a1 bassline to the label to release his first lp - technicality. the albums title draws from the club night technicality, a monthly drum & bass night at herbal in east london, which is run by chris inperspective and continued the sound of early reinforced and metalheadz records as well as pushing new forward thinking music. the album is centred around growing up as a teenager discovering this jungle/drumfunk sound through his college friend rahim (lab creation), where the likes on fold, ben ufo, breakage would attend the club. in addition to well received records on dirtybird, pets recordings and his collaborative work with leon vynehall as laszlo dancehall, the album is a stamp on a1s sound and his influences from his teenage years to growing up and discovering house and techno.

gdm (glaswegian dance music) pioneer - sparky (aka dave clark) is back on numbers. having spent the last year on lockdown in his luxurious garden studio we have finally managed to wrestle two tracks out of his ageing hands. signals is an all-new track, first heard on daves essential mix for bbc radio 1 (aired as part of jackmaster s made in glasgow), and now in the sets of ben ufo and jd twitch. signals is classic sparky, nailing that sweet spot between the proto-techno sounds of british synth pop and the dancefloor nous of the motor city. the flip is a snarling metal-bashing beast called tigress which comes direct from his archives. we ve been on at him to release this one for almost a decade and after playing a 192 mp3 at a pretty boisterous numbers x optimo party last summer, sparky finally relented. one day we ll convince sparky to let us release all the music sitting in his vaults but for now here are two gems from a man whose music has played a pivotal role in the history of numbers.

transmitting from new york (via toronto), jex aka jex opolis has so far been known as the man behind and in front of the good timin label. infamous for its boogie burner bombs to quote discogs member kutter karlo jex, trades his label for running back and a shifts the gear. up with the tempo and down with the lights, there still is a variety of styles. studio e is named after an after hours spot in edmonton that the record s author partied at in the early 2000s, also sounds like something ivan smagghe would have enjoyed at that point in time. laxmi tool is referencing classic tribal house and a street in pune, where jex wifes grandma bought the drum used in this track. on the flip, harpa brags and boasts with its trampoline bass line, while la casa surfs some timpani waves.

we are proud to announce the double lp edition of echospaces phase90 project, lovingly remastered by bazza (abbey road studios/thom yorke) @ alchemy mastering, london. features unreleased new material and beautiful silk screened metallic sleeves and art direction from the very talented lindsay todd of firecracker recordings & house of traps. the entire album was bounced down to 1/4- analog tape prior to remastering to preserve the integrity of the masters. this project was deeply inspired by the possessive quality of supernatural textures, field recordings and found sounds conducted at the calvary cemetery. there is something quite haunting in the underlying tone of these recordings, an ominous feeling not for the fainthearted. -illuminati- celebrates the progression of the soul, a concept which stems from metempsychosis. the material on this album can be interpreted as sinistral--dark, heavy due to the hardware and its currencies emitted by its source--the phase 90. an acidic dream of transliminality, this is the first phase90 project to materialize in its essence, until now. limited to 500 numbered copies.

with b&w printed sleeve - housed in cover art from p.a.m.s misha hollenbach. studio styrka springs a leak with three new tracks from villa abo, the mainstay of veteran swedish analogue unit frak. released by australian label noise in my head, sibilant is the product of a mutual appreciation for severed heads and terse tapes, both of which propelled a 13 year old jan svensson to form frak back in 1987. on warming up signal, svensson sounds the nuclear alarm with an unforgiving techno meltdown that leaves no survivors. the flip gives our disintegrated minds some relief with drum-magnet, a paranoid beat track recorded in collaboration with karlskrona punk rocker nebula, and the hypnotic syndrome beautiful.

a new four track ep by hexagon aka conforce on his own imprint. doing what he does best. making deep imaginary techno music with otherworldly authentic atmospheres without any concessions. the title track sucks you into desolate interstellar territories paying hommage to 606 rhythms with emotive strings on top that determine the total atmosphere of this killer advanced electro cut. human meets machine in it s purest form. pitch black leans on accurate programmed heavy broken percussive patterns and is the most functional track of the ep. functional but it s haunting atmosphere lifts this to a different dimension. continuum dives deeper into sonic territory with a mysterious stealth missional vibe caused by it s unpredictable sparkling crispy effects and mysterious pads. systematic repetition leans on pulsating modular bleeps and dubby basses and is the most techno orientated cut of the whole ep. it wouldn t be a conforce record if there weren t any strings and pads attached to it.
